Local art show on Friday

Good morning! I’m taking a few precious moments of “get ready time” before I head to my other job to drop a note about an upcoming event in my area. On Friday April 3rd, at 7:30 p.m., there will be an opening reception/art show at Red Plum Designs in Orem. The title of the show is “Signature Squares” and showcases 12×12 works from local artists. I was invited by Red Plum to submit a fine art photograph for the show and am excited to be a part of this event.

This art show is taking place on the same evening as the Friday Night Gallery Stroll in Provo, so it will be another fun destination to put into your schedule if you are already out and about looking at great art. I have also been told by Red Plum’s owner that there will be fun prizes given away at the beginning of the reception, so come at 7:30 for the best chance to win!!!

You can find the address for Red Plum Designs by clicking here. I hope to see you on Friday!

Hurrah for HTML!! (a.k.a. Update on “Website Facelift”)

If you read my last post, you probably got a sense for just a bit of the frustration I’ve had with the design tools offered by Microsoft for my website. In particular, I was bugged by the fact that my design looked great in Internet Explorer and pretty messy in Firefox. This Calvin & Hobbes cartoon is a visual of my feelings over the past week.

Be assured, my friends and fellow Firefox enthusiasts, that I was NOT going to let this issue go. After many more hours of work and personal study of HTML coding, I have improved the design so that www.breeherbert.com is now just as viewable (and pretty) in Firefox as it was in Internet Explorer!

Take a moment to look through my new website using your browser of choice and let me know what you think. (Also, send me a message through my contact page if you experience any problems or issues while exploring the site.) I’ll be in a dark room, resting my LCD screen scarred eyeballs.

I am currently working on some beautiful images of phalaenopsis and cymbidium orchids that I shot yesterday afternoon. The petal color is terrific and I had some great natural lighting – I’m very excited about them! I will preview the images on this blog soon.

In the meantime, enjoy a little random art in the form of yesterday’s Google home page, modified in honor of Dr. Seuss‘ birthday…

The art of making someone’s day…

There is an easily-learned and valuable art in being able to lift someone’s spirits, whether for a brief moment with a stranger or over the years with friends and family. To that end, here is my “Something to Think About” for today:

If someone is too tired to give you a smile, leave one of your own, because no one needs a smile as much as those who have nothing to give. (attributed to Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch)

I’ve definitely been there (one the needed end) some days. Have you?
